About
John is a Maine based painter who works primarily in oil. Born and raised in the Berkshires of Massachusetts, John came to Maine to study fine art at the Portland School of Art, now MECA & D. John holds both Associate and Bachelor degrees in Fine Art. Two principle themes in John's work are apparent: atmosphere and energy. Fascinated with clouds, air and space John continues to return to the landscape looking for the aerial effects of atmosphere. Interested in science and energy, John also explores the relationship between the tangible and non-tangible; urging the viewer to give meaning.
Statement
Creativity is fundamental and integral to all of humanity. I believe it was and is an ancient bi-product of sentience. It has assisted in our literal survival as a species and has helped us come to terms with our own existence. Creativity spans all of humanity. By default, we are all programmed and capable of being creative.
